The Ikarus C42 is a state of the art, high tech ultralight aircraft, developed in Germany by the COMCO-IKARUS company. Offering a unique combination of innovative technology and simplicity, creating unequalled value and performance.
The configuration is a high wing, two seat, side by side tri gear aircraft. The airframe is of aircraft grade aluminium with a composite cabin and fuselage shell. High strength Mylar/Polyester laminate covers all of the flying surfaces.
The impressive power to weight ratio and rugged Hydro-pneumatic landing gear contribute to truly STOL (short take off and landing) performance. The aircraft is a well proven trainer, and is ideal for rough field operation.
Light wing loading and high lift flaps make for safe approach speeds and remarkably easy landings. Careful
attention to drag reduction has given the C42 exceptional range and efficient cruise performance.
At 48” (122cm) wide, the comfortable cabin is 10” (25cm) wider than a Cessna 152. Ergonomically designed for ease of pilot and passenger access through dual clamshell door. The control stick is located on a central console with dual throttles for pilot and co-pilot operation; the flap controls are located overhead and the electric trim controls on the top of the control stick. The instrument panel is hinged and can be tilted forward.
The wing consists of tubular front and rear spars (ribbed and braced) with one piece pre-fabricated GT foil covering. An optional composite contoured wingtip is available at extra charge. Strong but light, the wings can be easily folded or removed for transportation and storage. The Rotax four stroke power plant is the industries standard for advanced light aircraft and is popular with owners for advanced light aircraft and is popular with owners for its low fuel consumption, high time between overhauls and quiet operation. The C42 met with the stringent European noise regulations as part of its German certification testing. This was accomplished with the standard Warp Drive tapered tip composite propeller and the Arplast Ecoprop 3 bladed propeller.
The clean tail group is braced with a singe aerofoil strut on each side. The streamlined aerofoil strut braced wing employs a ‘sheared wing tip’ design with either composite or standard fabric tips to reduce drag and improve aileron response at low speeds.
A low drag composite fuselage shell features an easy to remove panel giving easy access to the baggage area, inspection of the fuel tank and controls systems.
