Microlight NPPL Flight Training Syllabus

Exercise number & Description and brief explanation

No1- Aircraft Familiarisation, learn to find your way around the aircraft and what various items do. No2- Preperation for Flight, carry out the neccessary checks required before flight commences. No3- Air Experience, discover the beauty of flight and sensations that go with flying a microlight. No4- Effects of Controls, understand how each of the controls effects the aircraft in flight. No5- Taxiing, maneuvering the Aircraft safely on the ground in different conditions and surfaces. No6- Straight & Level, attain and maintain a constant height and heading at selected airspeeds. No7- Climbing, enter and maintain a steady full power climb then return to level flight to selected altitude. No8- Descending, enter and maintain a steady glide descent and return to level flight or climb. No9a- Medium Level Turns, enter and maintain a medium turn up to 30 deg maintaining level flight. No9b- Climbing & Descending Turns, enter and maintain a climb or descent whilst turning. No10a- Slow Flight, become familiar with the feel of the Aircraft just above the stall speed. No10b- Stalling, recognise and enter the Stall in various modes of flight and recover. No11- Spin Awareness, understand and recognise situations which may lead to inadvertant spin *1 No12- Take off & Climb, take off and climb to circuit height and fly a glide approach. No13- Circuit Approach & Landing, land from a glide approach with/without power and with cross winds. No14- Advanced Turning, enter and maintain a steep turn up to 60 deg maintaining level flight. No15- Unusual & Dangerous Attitudes/Conditions, recognise potentially dangerous conditions of flight. No16a- Forced Landing with/without Power, carry out a safe descent approach and landing with/out power. No16b- Operation at Minimum Level, safely operate the Aircraft at heights lower than those normally used. No17a- First Solo, carry out a safe & accurate circuit approach and landing on your own for the first time. No17b- Solo Circuit & Local Area General Consolidation, practise and refine all the skills learned so far. Restriced to local flying within 8nm from take point. Prepare for GST (General Skills Test) Build solo hours required (7 hours solo of 15 required for Restricted Licence) No17c- Dual Revision for GST, skills revision and carry out a practise GST . No18- Navigation Training, the art of map reading, planning, preparation and navigating whilst flying. Navigation must include 3hrs Solo and two qualifying flights of 40 nm total distance over different routes and land out at least one other airfield, which must be at least 15 nm away from the starting airfield. Total hours required for unrestriced licence is 25, 10 of which must be Solo and does not include GST time. GST:- Carry out the General Skills Test as PIC (Pilot in Command) to the satisfaction of your examiner. *1 Microlights are not cleared for spinning, this is a discussion topic only and MUST NOT be attempted.
